Railcrossing at Moreland Ave

The 1946 Lochner plan is now online! Thanks to shivtim, find it at: Georgia Tech

Obviously, the city followed many of the recommendations, but check out just one small part here. Moreland Ave used to cross DeKalb Ave at grade with the Georgia Railroad tracks right by the fire station. So, that elaborate interchange that exists now with all the weird jughandles was planned for under half a million bucks!

The story I’ve heard is that the fill dug out from under DeKalb and the tracks was used to build the Bass Fields on Austin Ave. Not sure if it’s true but it would have surely been convenient.
